New To The Shop This Week

As always we have a wide variety of new treats to tempt you with this week :)

Hard to do it justice in a photo but I have to say I'm proud of this one, my latest major project :)

We have quite a few new hats too- do you love the orange feather on this one, or do you love it!

Calling all 50s girls, you'll never go wrong with a black velvet beaded cocktail hat like this.

Friday Frock- An Amazing Find

You won't be surprised if I tell you I love it, will you?

You know me better than that by now, I'm sure.

But the story of how I acquired it is really quite something, even for me.

So- while driving around Desirees neighbourhood a couple of weeks ago on my way to pick up some furniture, I couldn't help but notice there was lots of stuff out on the kerbs.

So I did what any self-respecting vintage seller does, and picked up some free stuff.

Amongst my scores were a few random garbage bags and cases.

Humour me for a moment, and picture the scene; van pulled over with the engine running, sweat pouring off me in the blistering humidity, bored child on board, curtains doing a mixture of quick darty movements and slow-but-stealthy-so-she-won't-see-me things...suffice to say, I made a pretty quick job of getting in and out and getting the van loaded up.

Included in one of the cases, amongst other things (which included, umm, enough BNWT Collette Dinnigan lingerie to open a shop with, wigs, boots, and some genuinely bizarre costumes), was this dress!

 

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I pulled it out...I think I actually had to pat my chest with the excitement!

Handmade, 1950s, fine cotton, fully lined, and a perfect fit... see, there IS a God...and He must have seen me coming!

Either that, or Desiree has been sprinkling her magic around, because I found this fabulous dress less than 2 blocks from her house...

New in the Shop This Week

 

Such a huge amount of new stock in the shop this week!

So much that I can't show you it all, I've picked out a few favourites that you might enjoy looking at too.

And look what Dolly picked out for herself! A stunning 1940s two-piece silk suit and matching ruched satin topper.

I've lightened the pics to show details, I love the thinestone faux buttons and how perfect is the pearl necklace with it?

Lots more kitsch too, including several sets of bird figurines and vases.

Here's the kitsch shelves, this is only halfway through stocking them up so there's lots more than this on here now. Safe to say if you're after an animal figurine or vase, there's a good chance we have it!

...including five of these 'miracle' brooch pendants, one in every colour (all from one lady, she must have really liked this style).

 

heart-shaped patent leather-look handbag, not very old but so cute I had to buy it. Every time I look at this I can't stop thinking how well it'd match Sarahs red heart-shaped sunnies.

And look out the front now-very different to before!

You'd be forgiven for thinking we're suddenly into the white/shabby thing...no, our focus hasn't changed, but sometimes you have to go with whatever stock falls into your lap (i.e., comes as part of a bulk buy).

Old fishing creel, great to create a rustic look and always popular with the boys

50s anodised planter, well, you can never have too many of these I say!

I'm happy with the bookcase, I like that the grain of the timber came through and it's handy piece of shelving for the moment too!

40s & 50s Hats & Handbags

So many treasures, so little time!

That seems to have been my mantra this past couple of weeks- we've acquired a mini-mountain of new stock just lately, as fast as I prepare it there always seems to be more to do!

Here are a few of the gorgeous hats and handbags that will be making their way up to the shop tomorrow, I have to say these are among my favourites EVER.
 Ladies are already coming in to the shop looking for their formal and Melbourne cup outfits, and I wonder if some of these hats will be in the newspaper one day, being worn by a 'best-dressed' winner??

Rare 40s felt

Such an unusual texture to this one and a lovely silk velvet band

There's no way I could get this one to sit on a mannequin head, it needs to be pinned to a real head, LOL! Perfect for those who love the fascinator style but of course this is an original 50s!

This one doesn't show too well in a photo but is a lovely 50s silk velvet cocktail hat, perfect for the races or a school formal (prom).

In this (lightened) close-up you can see it has little bows all around the edges, so cute!

Elegant 1940s topper, reminiscent of Victorian styles

Again I've lightened this pic to show you the detail, in reality the colour is a rich black

New to the Shop This Week

 

Kitsch-tastic poodles!! Despite my business name I sell very little kitsch, but I've had these babies tucked away for a couple of years just waiting for the right time. Can you guess their intended use??

 

They are doorstops! They have big holes and rubber stoppers in the bases, one of them was still full of sand when I bought them.

 

Pretty floral 50s dress, such a flattering cut, but sorry girls, this one's already gone!

 

Stunning Art Deco display cabinet, of course this one is all due to Sue, how does she do it?! I keep asking myself too!

 

Superb detailing, so solid and heavy that 3 guys battled to get it inside

Some fun vintage feather boas, these should please our burlesque dancers

Lovely retro orange glassware

Lovely anodised cup set in a table, this is another special piece I've had stashed away

The 'twirly bits' at the base of the table are holders for your wine bottles

Original 1920s felt cloche

Gorgeous navy and white beaded hat, I love the little bell-shaped beads

Funky bright green retro mushroom lamp, I took this pic at night so the colour is a bit 'off', when unlit it's a fab vibrant green

Huge travelling trunk, complete with flip lid for jewellery, drawers, shoe briefcase and coathangers. Would you believe it weighs over a hundred pounds?! This pic doesn't do it justice unfortunately, but it really is a special piece which we were very pleased to acquire.


In other news.....I've been a bit slack on the blogging front this past week, haven't I? Well, we've been working on a couple of secret projects- I can't talk about them yet, except to say, they're all good and all vintage!
