Vintage & Kitsch Collectables You Wish You Owned - Part 2

As you all know I've been recovering from my dental surgery this past week and a half, so I've had plenty of time (although little inclination!) to do some online browsing.

Here are a few lovelies I've had my eyes on this week.

a girl can never have too many pairs of vintage sunnies, and I definitely need more!

50s snack tray which is also a lazy susan

50s/60s chest of drawers, more often we see the sideboards and wall units, less so the bedroom furniture in this style

Yellow, grey and pink were huge in 50s kitchens, and this ceramic biscuit barrell must have been right on-trend

As were the ever-popular Nally Ware canisters

But if you're more for the 60s, how could you go past this super psychedelic tray? 'Specially if you knew it's made from fabric-covered fibreglass

Anyone who admires Vix's wall of misery will love these big-eyed child prints, I have 2 similar but am always on the lookout for more.

For those who know that green is a neutral colour (come on, hands up now!), how's this bakelite bracelet? It's been made recently from vintage pieces but if you didn't know you wouldn't know...if you know what I mean.

Aah, beautiful bakelite, what more can I say, you know what I'm like with this stuff, this has to be one of the nicest trinket boxes I've yet seen.

I've wanted one of these bakelite musical cigarette dispensers for ages-one day I'll get one. Twist one of the knobs on the front and out pops a drawer with cigs inside-awesome!

Original old garden swan (?), looking pretty crusty and rustic but it could be fixed up, nice to see an original one amongst all the plastic repro.

German lava vase, such a classic collectable, this one stands out amongst the orange crowd for me with the stripey effect.

Anodised cup set in it's own small table, a must for any serious retro collector.

60s carousel wig box, you can't tell from the pic but this one had 2 original wigs inside, how cool is that!

And last but not least, this 50s Italian cup and kidney-shaped saucer set. I'm quite tempted by this myself as it would fit well with my black stuff...but no, I'll let you all have a go :)

New To The Shop This Week

 

We've had so much new stock in this week I hardly know where to start! I've been working my absolute butt off in the last ten days to get it all into the shop, here's a selection for you to ooh and aah over :)

 

We did a fantastic bulk buy of 30s-50s vintage clothing last week, above is one of the stunning dresses we bought. I've taken quite a few up to the shop already but you should see how many are still hanging in my laundry waiting to be washed, LOL. I'll show you a few more next week when I have more time to take good photos for you.

We've changed around a few of the kitchen displays- Sue put this red and blue-themed one together on our newest tea trolley, and didn't she do a good job?!

As I've mentioned before, things come in runs, and lately that's whats been happening with tins, we seem to have bought quite a few.

Can you spot the other (accidental) theme here?? Yes- cats! You'd be forgiven for thinking I'm obsessed with them or something, LOL.

Some beautiful retro 60s glassware

Fantastic mid century standard lamp with a perfect original shade

Can't go wrong with a tooled leather handbag...

But how about a GREEN tooled leather handbag?!

 

Bright red Vespa bag, not an oldie but so cool we've made an exception to our strict rule about not selling any repro

a selection of bow ties...I was going to say 'for the boys' but no, girls can definitely wear these too!

We now have quite a number of old copper items too-basins, kettle, jugs, and these trays.

We have them displayed up on a high picture rail in the kitchen, and I can just see them displayed that way in someone's country or shabby-themed kitchen.

Old Dutch clogs, brought to Australia by a migrant in the 60s, he'd held on to them all this time until I bought them from him last week. I love buying things with a bit of personal history to them

How awesome is this lamp?! Sue can take all the credit for this, she's the resident lamp queen!

 The wingspan is as long as my arm, hard to get a good photo, but see below how pretty it is when lit up

and last but of course not least, some jewellery

1920s/30s bakelite 'flapper girl' pendant

Some fabulous new shoe clips, I especially love the Art deco cut steel pair, a treat to add to either vintage or modern shoes.


Well I'm off to do another big fashion buy-up tomorrow (with VB's help of course!), I know I just did one last week, but hey, tomorrow is 'Frock on Friday', and I'll be giving it a whole new meaning, lol.

Vintage 1960s Dresses...Fresh Finds & New Faves

It's all go-go-go around here at the moment!

While we don't open the shop until Feb.18, we officially take over next Monday, so I need to have everything ready by then. Yes folks, the 'glamorous' life of this vintage seller is currently a roundabout of cleaning, painting, sanding, scrubbing, handwashing, steaming, mending...you name it, I'm doing it.

Here are a few more of the vintage dresses I've been preparing for my unsuspecting future customers.

 

Another pleated chiffon skirt- I seem to have bought a few of these!

Classic crimplene, I wonder if this used to be a maxi.

 

Such a vibrant print, the colours are so fresh it could have been made yesterday.

 

Pretty summery floral, again a lightweight chiffon

Oops lightened the top pic a bit too much, this is the correct colour

I totally love the psychedelic print on this one, I'd be keeping it if it fitted me

My mother said she used to have a dress exactly like this....

 

Personally I just love the confetti lucite buttons, that's what sold me on this dress

 

Polka dots are always popular, I think this may be the first polka dot crimplene dress I've ever had though

 

And who wouldn't love the belt buckle!

Fresh Finds & New Faves...60s Dresses

Over the next few weeks I'll be showing you some of the gorgeous dresses I bought in Melbourne. Please comment and tell me which one/s you like best, I really want to know :)

They are mostly 1960s, one of my favourite decades, so I was totally spoilt for choice!

 

I'm really loving bright prints in my old age, including the one on this shift dress.

It's the same style as the one I wore here, super-light and comfortable in hot weather.

Also a lightweight rayon, this classic summer dress with pleated skirt is fully lined.

Please forgive the awful lighting in these shots!

My huge high racks of vintage were casting big shadows wherever I put the bodyform today.

As you can see this one is a similar style, but is designed to be worn buttoned up to the neck. A pity my vintage 'dolly' isn't busty enough to fill this one out properly!

 

Fine silk cocktail dress, made in Germany. This one is just beautiful to touch.

It has long self ties at each side and a partially open back.

It's often the detailing which makes vintage garments so special, and this dress, with its self-covered buttons atop each shoulder, is no exception.

 

Mid-60s medium-weight crimplene, these are always winners when it comes to washing and drying.

I love the piping details; it always gives a dress an air of neatness or tailoring that really appeals to me.

 

So, you'd be forgiven for thinking I'm into florals in a big way.

Florals lend themselves to lightweight fabrics and summery dresses so well, and that's what we need here in horrible-weather land!
