Frock Friday...Because Purple & Green Should ALWAYS Be Seen

 

It's been a right old busy week this week!

We did a super-fun but very tiring buying trip on Friday and I can't wait to show you the fantastic goodies we brought back.

As usual though, you'll have to wait until next week to see them, when everything is cleaned up and presentable.

This is another of the maxis which is now in stock, and it's one of my personal faves. Late 60s, silk georgette, fully lined, green, and polka dot...what's not to love?

 

Purple platforms and blue toes make the outfit just right, a bit of pop without being over the top.

Melbourne is Still Fabulous

I did the biggest lot of vintage shopping I've ever done today, and am quite exhausted!

Seven hours straight with an amazing collector...I never knew people like this existed. I think I must have looked at nearly TWO THOUSAND pieces of vintage clothing.

More on that later, but now, some more of Melbourne.

I had to go back to this antique centre today to pick up something for Sue, so I took a few more photos for you.

Housed in an ex-picture theatre, the building dates to the 1930s, although the exterior doesn't look particularly Deco.

First thing on a Monday morning, and this centre was pumping!

Second stop of the day was a walk around the city centre.

I had some time to kill before my buy-up appointment, so took a few photos of the lovely old buildings while I checked out some retro shops.

I've always thought of Melbourne as Australias most European-looking city.

This is Flinders St (railway) station.

Now for some shoes.

I happened to walk past a shoe shop called Miss Louise, which is quite possibly the most expensive shoe shop in the whole of Australia.

 

They only sell brands like Loutboutin, Blahnik, A.McQueen...you get the picture!

 

There were no prices on these shoes in the mirrored window display; I had a wee look at their 50% off sale table, and saw a pair I quite liked. They were $1398 half price.

My latest vintage (70s) dress purchase, bought at the BVFF from co-sellers Mike & Lizzie. I really wanted to wear my snakeskin heels and fur with this, but they were a no-go as it rained all day.

Melbourne is Completely Fabulous.

Day one of the long-awaited Melbourne trip, and I packed a lot into it.

Being a civilised place, shops are open until 6pm on a Sunday. I managed to visit 5 antique centres, a huge market, several op shops, lots of shoes and clothes shops and more.

So, yes, there are lots of reasons why Melbourne is great, here are just a few.

Lots of beautiful tree-lined streets.

Trams. I love them.  Sydney and Brisbane don't have them, so they have enormous novelty value for me. Wasn't sure how I'd fare dealing with them in traffic, but I was fine.

Lots of antique centres. Obviously. They all seem to be full of enormous cabinets, not much that can be touched/handled.

Lots of single-storey colonial terraces with cottage gardens...

And many very beautiful, grander old homes to admire while crawling driving by.

 

This is one of the huge emporium-style op shops I went to.

I love the heels on these shoes (not the snake print though). 

And the name of this vintage shop, Fat Helens. Sorry not a great pic, I was too excited to take good photos.

And lastly, brooch overload. Can you believe I didn't buy one single thing all day?! How good am I. Nah, don't worry, I'll be spending tomorrow!

70s Fashion Fiascos

I picked up this lovely little book on ebay here a while ago and wondered if anyone else has seen it. You can tell by my stickers on the front, I sometimes take this to a fair for my buyers to read while they're browsing. But they are strictly NOT allowed to buy it.

It's not exactly heavy on text, but there's enough info to allow readers to identify the main trends and looks pretty quickly.

There's quite a bit of men's fashion too. About which I completely do NOT care.

I've always loved pantsuits, but even at my thinnest, I simply did not have the right shape and height.

Of course there's lots of maxis, which are becoming something of a saving grace these days :)

Of course no self-respecting 70s fashion tome could be complete without a reference to platform shoes. I love the title they've used here, but the shoes shown leave a bit to be desired.

Ah, yes. 'There is Nobility in Fashion'. Nothing more to be said really, is there?
