Ta-Dah!....The One Where I Upcycle

Meet my new bedroom chair.

For the new house, you understand. Because at the moment, it's all about the new house. And packing. And sorting. And selling. And culling. And etcetera.

But it's rather handy really, this moving house thing.

It makes you find stuff. And do stuff.

Like the stunning 70s cream and green fringed crochet bedspread, soon to feature in the new house. Totally forgot I had that.

And the glorious green floral fabric now on the chair seat- I had 7 metres of this as-new 60s heavyweight cotton drill stashed away so well I'd forgotten about it.

So, in order to make even more work for myself, I promptly decided my new bedroom will be black, cream and green, and set about it.

Before shots of the chair, with its fugly, stained and ill-fitting cover.

I picked up this little bedroom chair cheaply at a garage sale a couple of years ago, and while I love the style, I'd never been happy with the colours and the awful matted cover.

Being lately obsessed with gloss finishes, the chair frame got a few coats with a black anti-rust gloss paint spray can.

The fabric was cut to size and nailed in. The clamp is for weight balance while nailing, and I laid a towel underneath to stop it all sliding off the table.

A bit of child slavery never hurts either. You may notice another seat in the process of being recovered- yes, this wee chair is one of 2 undergoing 'the treatment'.

Attempt to screw the chair frame back on. Realise that the seat has always been dodgy, because the holes are all in the wrong place. Re-drill them all and attach chair frame. Meanwhile, the drill is stolen by VB, who then proceeds to drill holes in the legs of my work table. By herself. Yes, really!

Awesome chair. Child who can drill. Result!

my 2 assistants spent yesterday afternoon redoing the 3 fugly stools in the shop. Faded pink 80's "Southwest" fabric begone. We had someone from the scene shop spray paint the bases. Too bad I forgot to take photos. It's amazing what some paint and fabric can do to turn yuck into nice.

Blimey, VB can drill! I couldn't trust my daughter with a drill at the moment. She is incredibly clumsy, she'd probably kill somebody. The chair looks fabulous. xx

That looks awesome! I was just saying to Corey last night I want to paint our dining room table and recover the chairs. What I didn't tell him was that I want to make crochet granny squares to cover the chair pads with and I want to paint the table and chairs a light yellow. Not sure how he will respond to that part!

Wow, great job! My grandmother had one in the fugly version. I remember it well because I spilled nail polish on it when I was only about 8 years old.

well done you, it's a vast improvement, love a bit of tacky fake fur but not when it looks like it's been living on the bathroom floor for 35 years. Love the new fabric choice

I have a chair alot like yours. Wouldn't you know I have the Leopard print fabric I am going to re-do it with just draped across the seat? And it's been like that for at least 6 months!!! *LOL*

Your chair is gorgeous I love the green fabric.

Omg VB is getting so big and she's starting to look MORE AND MORE like her Momma. She's SO CUTE.
