Friend Friday

To find out about Friend Friday, click here to go to Modly Chic.

In a nutshell, it's a group of bloggers getting together to discuss various fashion, beauty and blogging issues, with the aim of building interaction and community-mindedness.

A fresh set of questions is posed each week, and each participant answers the questions on their own blog. Again, go to Modly Chic for a list of participants and links to their blogs. This week, the topic is determining blog content.

1. With all the blogging events out there, how do you determine which ones to participate in and which ones to avoid? Firstly, the event has to suit the theme/s of my blog and my personality or it's straight out the window. Secondly, if it's an event that will be time-consuming then it needs to fit into my lifestyle. For example, I considered doing the 30 for 30. I'd quite like to do it, but I'm snowed under with unglamorous work at the moment (scroll down and read my last post if you haven't already), and dressing up and wearing makeup every day just can't fit in. I'd like to give it the time it deserves so I'll wait until I can.

2. Be honest, have you ever jumped on the bandwagon of some blogging movement/event for the wrong reasons? How did that turn out? Mmmm..*thinking*...Not that I can recall. Friend Friday is the only event I have joined. So far so good. We'll see how it goes.

3. How do you give your own flair to an event while still maintaining the general mission and purpose? I did a little one last year (which I initiated) called the vintage hairstyling challenge. I included a few funny/silly photos as I think showing some personality is important. We need to remember that blogging is a limited medium, and only so much can be conveyed in photos and text. That is, our readers are not meeting us in person...the photos are everything.

4. When determining content for your blog, what criterion do you keep in mind? Vintage! I sell all sorts of vintage goodies but focus on the 20s to the 70s, so that's mostly what you'll see. I post things that I think my regular commenters will like. Here and there I'll post about a topical issue that everyone has an opinion about or something/somewhere that I just love. And of course, about my soon-to-be-open retail shop!

5. While everything will not suit your blog, how do you try and support your fellow bloggers who are participating in something worthwhile but not your style? Commenting! Commenting is everything. You could read someones blog every day for ten years without commenting, and they may never even know.  If something/somone has really touched me, then I'll instinctively put significant effort and feeling into my response. That's just how I am!

I agree re commenting being so so important. I really struggle to find the time to comment on all the blogs I follow and if I get a day or two behind I need a whole day to catch up!

Also I have obviously not put enough (ANY!) planning into the 30 for 30 - I'm only up to day six and I'm more than a third of the way through my 30 items!

Great answers, Kitty!
