...Where The Miserable Children Find a Home At Last

I've been collecting these kitsch 1960s 'miserable children' prints over the past few months, but with an equally miserable landlord who's reluctant to let me hang pictures in his precious abode, I was forced to come up with an original display idea.

Cue inspiration!

The front of a large pine credenza thoughtfully donated by my folks some time ago houses our embarrassingly-large DVD and reference book collection, but I knew I could make it even more useful if I fiddled around with it.

I'd had the unit up against the wall of my narrow rectangular back room, which worked well, but by turning it around and moving the front right up to the doorway, it has not only become a room divider but given me a whole 'new wall' to play with.

front colour

The back was still a raw knotty pine (bleugh!), so I stained it to match the colour of the front.

A few quick nails and hey presto, an instant wall of kitsch misery! (which, hint hint, is *not* full).

The kids are surrounded by vintage allsorts....a recurring theme in my never-quite-done house. My best 50s saucer chair, a green shaggy 70s rug, a 50s plastic fruit bowl (currently used for drying glittery hair flowers) and an old 'bambi' skin make for a comfy place to sit and craft in the warm winter sun.

Fancy a seat???

Linking up with Lakota's Ta-Dah Tuesday.

Misery Kitsch! I Love it. On one hand it's so odd, on the other I have to applaud the creators of this stuff for not just shoveling out happy, pretty people. Love your solution.

Hoorah for you! Great idea, missus. Loving the chair very much. Not too sure about the Bambi skin. My daughter found a deer leg (I kid you not)in a bag of guinea pig hay last week so I'm a bit off deers! xx
