Red Roar!

Red is the colour of ROAR!!!

I must be a tiger on the inside, as this is the second red 1950s dress I've bought in as many weeks.

I was thrilled to find this one, a true shelf bust wiggle dress, in my exact size.

I've had this fabulous rhinestone necklace stashed away for far too long, hoping to find the pieces it needs for repair. It's too lovely not to show off...and wearing beautiful red things always makes us feel more beautiful, doesn't it?

Why not make your weekend a special one? Go on, wear one of your treasures and make yourself feel beautiful.

Freakin' Frockin' Friday

Ooh, I've been away-have you missed me?? LOL!

I haven't really been away, just busy with the usual stuff, mostly getting ready for our big vintage fashion fair next week.

Oh, and being continually out on the hunt for another small ton of vintage treasure, of course.

This is another of the fab maxis Sue bought a few weeks ago...I squeezed into it for your benefit but really it's a bit too small, so it's up at the shop, already for sale, for anyone who is willing and able to check it out in person.

Because, you know, how can a Friday nights vintage outfit NOT include lurex, platforms, and bell sleeves??

The not-quite-boob-shot

I'll be back soon with lots more new treasures to show you..we've found some amazing stuff this past couple of weeks.

Thought of the day; anyone who uses the word 'wenches', is a person I like. I wonder if you feel the same way?

Frock Friday- Barefoot Essential

Ahh, finally a chance to show you my new shawl, pure wool and snapped up for the princely sum of ten cents.

I think this gypsy-style 70s lace dress had been in my mending pile forever, so I finally finished it....what do you think??

I had shoes lined up to wear with it, but once I had the dress on (and given our 35-plus daytime temps), this combo  just screamed barefoot at me.

'Coz you all know I like the swishys, right?

Scrabble ring- gift from Nelly

This pic is just for La Dama, our mama prosti, this is my rolled fringe without rat, pins or hairspray.

Sunnies- gift from Vix

How many times have I been asked for a genuine vintage black velvet and rhinestone choker?? Sorry gals, this one's mine, snapped up at a vintage fashion fair last year. But I'll let you have the next one I find.

When will people learn that vintage fairs are where it's at for some seriously smart vintage shopping??

Yes, girls....I WILL CONVERT YOU!!!

Simple Dress, Easy Glam

Need quick and easy glam??

Take one fabulous sparkly maxi, simple accessories, an easy up-do, and you're done.

Is it any wonder we love maxis so much?! They just about do all the work for you.

Have to show you my latest jewellery treasure too, a Deco Czech multicoloured rhinestone bangle, yum.

Considering the totally rotten wet weather we've had this week, sparkles are definitely in order, too.

I'm sick of having wet feet, a damp house, a bogged van, and a pile of maxis begging to be washed. I'm over it!!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but bring back the sun...please??

Frock Friday- Maxi Power

What a truckload of maxis we have bought this week!! Not to mention vintage nighties, day dresses, 60s, 70s and 80s dresses.

I think Nelly would fall over and faint if she saw how many angel-sleeved maxis we now have...I know I nearly did.

And Sue did her first-ever clothing buy-woo hoo!!

I don't think I can quite explain how well she did...you'll just have to wait and see, as I'll be showing you the maxi-mum heavenlies she came home with over the next few weeks.

You can also keep up with our latest by liking our Facebook page, I'll be adding photos every day over the next week.

On another note, I'm currently unable to comment on blogs with embedded comments. So, Nelly, Coedith, Heidi, Miss Claire, Mel Coconut, and others, please know that I'm not ignoring you :)

Frock Friday- Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3

I'm thinking of wearing this outfit to a big antique fair we're doing in ten days' time, so these pics I quickly snapped off are effectively test shots.
I picked up this 60s lurex number a while ago and haven't worn it yet, I love it (and it's fringed belt!) but it's not a definite for the fair yet.

This 4-day fair will be the biggest and most important fair for us thus far, so obviously I need to get the outfits right!

I won't be wearing these shoes btw, no no no.
Nor will I be sporting this hair (it's Xmas, right, so I'm doing some cooking today), but I haven't quite decided on the best hat or hair for this dress...maybe some version of a beehive, or a big white fluffy hat, a la Janis Joplin??

Suggestions welcome!

I'm off to finish making red velvet fudge, cross fingers this batch turns out...the first one was an epic fail. Woops!

Friday Frock- An Amazing Find

Do you love this dress?
OR DO YOU LOVE THIS DRESS???

You won't be surprised if I tell you I love it, will you?
You know me better than that by now, I'm sure.

But the story of how I acquired it is really quite something, even for me.

there she goes with those elbows again

So- while driving around Desirees neighbourhood a couple of weeks ago on my way to pick up some furniture, I couldn't help but notice there was lots of stuff out on the kerbs.

So I did what any self-respecting vintage seller does, and picked up some free stuff.

Amongst my scores were a few random garbage bags and cases.

Humour me for a moment, and picture the scene; van pulled over with the engine running, sweat pouring off me in the blistering humidity, bored child on board, curtains doing a mixture of quick darty movements and slow-but-stealthy-so-she-won't-see-me things...suffice to say, I made a pretty quick job of getting in and out and getting the van loaded up.

Included in one of the cases, amongst other things (which included, umm, enough BNWT Collette Dinnigan lingerie to open a shop with, wigs, boots, and some genuinely bizarre costumes), was this dress!

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I pulled it out...I think I actually had to pat my chest with the excitement!

Handmade, 1950s, fine cotton, fully lined, and a perfect fit... see, there IS a God...and He must have seen me coming!

Either that, or Desiree has been sprinkling her magic around, because I found this fabulous dress less than 2 blocks from her house...

Frock Friday- Bangles & Barry M.

Sometimes you just have to let a bold print do all the talking.
Well, ok I tried, but VB kept butting in, we were in a hurry to get to an antique fair yesterday but she wasn't letting Mum take a few quick photos without getting in the way joining in.

Not only is she posing with me now, she's changing her outfit ten times a day and demanding nailpolish; can this be another Helga! in the making??

Frock Friday- For the Love of Lurex

Swish, swish, swish.
There's nothing like a big, fun maxi to brighten up your day, is there?

And I really think I did brighten up the day of many passers-by as I ran around doing errands; the combination of the bright silver together with our insanely bright sun made a few look away and turn around again for another look.

Whether I made them snow-blind, horrified, or it was a simple case of side-eye, who knows?

Who cares?! I love my new maxi, end of story!

In unrelated news, I'm back into furniture mode with a vengeance. While I've been flat out with clothes and fairs the projects have been piling up and as of this week they're being tackled head on. I'll be back soon with lots of restored and revamped beauties to show you.

Have a lovely weekend whatever you get up to...but think of me sanding and painting my wee girly fingers to the bone, won't you?!

Friday Frock- Vintage Heavies

The dresses are the heavies, btw.  I've been lugging them around all day getting ready for the fair..and cursing myself for buying so many coats, wool crepes and long dresses.

We've had an influx of weighty 1930s/40s crepe dresses lately, many of which are coming to the fair tomorrow. This wool number wasn't quite ready in time but will be listed on Etsy in the coming weeks. It's such a treat to be able to try on our stock now that I fit into quite a lot of it, not only can I show you more, it means I can be much more helpful to my customers.

Chronic bitchface- yep, it's working overtime today. As I say to VB....'HANDLE IT!!!'

dress- stock, ask if you're interested
belt- 50s with a 70s pendant worn as buckle
hat- from my collection
shoes- yet another pair from the wooden sole hall of fame

This last pic is just for La Dama- see, amorcito, prosti slap!!!
